Turned vegan and missing baked goods? Here are some of London’s vegan cake highlights
Cookies and Scream, Camden market and Holloway road
Cookies and Scream has acquired a cult status in the London vegan community since it opened in 2010. It currently has two outlets: a ‘bake shop’ on Holloway road and a ‘cookie bar’ in the Dingwalls gallery area of Camden Lock Market. They offer up a feast of sugary treats, including banoffee pie, baked donuts, the ‘Gosh’ brownie and the legendary cookie ice cream sandwich. And it’s all completely vegan.

MS Cupcake, Brixton
London’s first entirely vegan cake shop. Their mission is to create ‘indulgent and decadent cakes for people regardless of what they can, and cannot eat’. Come here for cookies, layer cakes, muffins, squares and a very extravagant range of cupcakes. Founder Melissa Morgan describes her cakes as ‘classic North American with a British flavour twist’. Sound good? Get out your mixing bowl and try out some of the recipes, which are published in ‘Ms. Cupcake: The Naughtiest Vegan Cakes in Town.’

Ruby’s of London, Greenwich market
An artisan vegan patisserie. Either order their products on line or head to their stall on Greenwich Market on weekends, where Ruby herself is sometimes on hand to talk to customers. The salted caramel cupcake, chai spiced donut and bramley apple and raspberry Crumble Mini-Loaf are all highly recommended. Rubys of London also makes some wonderful bespoke designs – like this flowery chocolate cake.

Lola’s Cupcakes, stores across London
If you use the tube a lot you’ll be used to seeing Lola’s cake stands, which are dotted around London’s stations.
That delicious icing looks suspiciously dairy heavy, but Lola’s actually offer several vegan options which taste just as good.
We’re big fans of Lola’s vegan coconut and strawberry cupcake and the decadent vegan chocolate option.
Lola’s Cupcakes, Topshop, Oxford Circus and at locations across the capital, including Blackfriars underground station, Kings cross station, Spitalfields market, Waterloo Underground, Cannon Street and Convent garden.
